There seems to be a very large increase in the baboon populations in parts of HNP. Knowledgeable residents and stakeholders are expressing concern over resultant observations of the effects of these massive troupes eg on vegetation, other species, ground nesting birds, etc.
Research is most definitely warranted, into this and many other relevant and exciting conservation questions in HNP. There are many local Zimbabwean ZPWMA staff, especially in Hwange, who are ready and waiting to be involved in this kind of research should CWF support them and find the necessary supervision and funding for good scientific research projects. Findings of such research is important in the formulation of credible management policies by the authorities, and our CWF manager has the scientific knowledge and networking contacts to give much credibility to any project donors may like to support.
